About
Oceanic Dojo
All styles of Martial Arts are good and it does not matter which style you go to, rather which instructor you decide to train under. Look at what you are being taught and how it is being delivered. It is a matter of finding what is right for you and what your ultimate goal is.
The
style of karate that we do is called Zen
Do Kai, formed by Soke
Bob Jones in 1970. It is a Freestyle system that incorporates
from all disciplines of Martial Arts and together with Soke
Bob Jones fighting tradition is an effective and comprehensive
self defence system.
Oceanic Dojo is focused on preserving the tradition of karate
and therefore is an application based Martial Arts (self
defence) rather than sport, it incorporates everything from
mutual and forced confrontation to ground defence, restraint
and control techniques giving you a complete all round system.
Oceanic Dojo is dedicated in teaching people of all ages
and abilities, building confidence and self esteem.
All though Zen Do Kai is a Freestyle Martial Arts, we at Oceanic Dojo have come to terms with the fact you cannot over look the old teachings of our Masters. It is here that all the answers we seek have been lost for centuries, that a few dedicated teachers have taken the time to explore. People like Hanshi Patrick McCarthy of Koryu Uchinadi and closer to home, Kyoshi Steeve Nedelkos of Zen Do Kai.
With
these influences Oceanic Dojo strives to continue to improve
their Martial Arts and be open to new and old ideas of Martial
Arts.
This is open to all styles of Martial Arts, no Discrimination or Politics tolerated. Back to Top

Little
Dragons (3-6 Year old)
Karate is beneficial for even very young children. Not many schools offer training for children as young as three. However, a good program for children of this age takes into consideration the differences in their mental and physical development.
Our program for preschoolers stresses enjoyment, developing self-confidence, and building basic physical strength and coordination for a more traditional children’s program. In addition we teach the basic skills needed to be successful in the older children’s karate program.
Our
Little Dragon Karate Program considers the specific developmental
needs of the 3 to 6 year old child. Lessons specially created
for the young child develop the confidence and self-discipline
needed for success in life, other benefits include:Back

Childrens
Karate (7-14 Year old)
Learning karate can benefit children in many ways. Codes of conduct help children learn tolerance and respect for others. It also guides a child in learning to think before acting in what may be a potentially dangerous situation.
Health benefits include overall body conditioning, enhanced coordination and balance. This sets the stage for a lifelong habit of exercise.
Children also learn how to defend themselves in case the need would ever arise. In addition, a child who has learned to respect others and who is physically fit understands that they are someone worthy of respect. This develops their self-confidence which children need to succeed.
The
activities in our classes are designed to be entertaining
for the children while teaching basic skills, self discipline
and self defence. Although the child may see these activities
as strictly fun, there are well-defined objectives behind
each one.

Preparing for the Karate Lesson
Talk to your child and tell them about some of the things that they can expect to do while they are at karate:
- exciting activities including punching and kicking bags
- playing group games
- learning a fun way to count and talk in Japanese
- meeting new friends
What to wear & bring?
Your child should be dressed properly to allow for comfort and unrestricted movement. A karate uniform is not required immediately; however you should look at getting one so the child feels part of a group. No shoes or socks are worn in the training area of the dojo.
A water bottle is crucial
Parental Involvement
Parents or other responsible adults are encouraged to stay and watch their child as the child participates in each aspect of the karate program.
While we hope that your child will feel comfortable enough to readily participate in all the enjoyable activities, we realize that not all young children are ready to make this major step. If you discover that your child is not willing to join the class we recommend that you allow your child just to watch the first activities. Most children will see an activity which will entice them to participate after a short period of time.
Each day the instructor will attempt to encourage your child to join the group on his/her own. However, some children may need a familiar adult in close proximity for certain activities or for the first few weeks.
There may be times that the instructor will bring the parents on the floor to help and assist with tasks or to join in with a game or two.
Karate
for Adults (15+)
Marco Sensei has worked in the security industry and has faced many different scenarios; he has a very good understanding of street self defence and the human body and knows how vulnerable the human being can be and most of all what works. So with his knowledge and his continuing study of Martial Arts, combining from the new (Freestyle Karate) and the old (Okinawan Martial Arts) will give you a very practical system.
You will learn everything you would expect in a Martial Arts Dojo, but the difference here is that you will have a lot more hands on approach and realistic training than a lot of other styles that you will find today. The sessions will leave your head spinning of excitement and enthusiasm when you realise how effective the techniques learnt can be applied.
This is not a new
style of Karate it is just taking from all styles of Martial
Arts and putting into practice the most effective Marco
Sensei believes to be.Back

Muay
Thai Kickboxing
Traditional Muay Thai has a long history in Thailand as a martial art used by the military. The military style of Muay Thai is called Lerdrit, while today's "Sport Muay Thai" slightly varies from the original art and uses kicks and punches in a ring and with gloves similar to those used in boxing. Muay Thai is referred to as "The Science of Eight Limbs", as the hands; feet, elbows, and knees are all used extensively in this art.
The basic offensive techniques in Muay Thai use fists, elbows, shins, feet, and knees to strike the opponent. To bind the opponent for both offensive and defensive purposes, small amounts of stand-up grappling are used: the clinch. The clinch is applied by holding the opponent either around the neck or around the body.
Oceanic
Health & Fitness follows the grading system set out
by the Bob Jones Corporation (BJC), covering everything
from combination work on shields to sparring.
Any Martial Arts style can train in this to help improve their fighting skills.
