A word from the founder of Oceanic Health & Fitness
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and tell you how Oceanic Health & Fitness came about.
Ever since I was a little tacker living in Melbourne I had an interest in sport such as swimming, triathlons, Martial Arts & surfing.
I grew up training early hours of the morning in a swimming pool and late at night running, I spent most weekends going along to swimming and Triathlon competitions and when the opportunity arose I went surfing.
At the age of 17, I joined the Army and was posted to Townsville and obviously not having any more surf, I made the most of the magnificent weather and took up Surf Life Saving with the Picnic Bay Surf Lifesaving Club and continued my triathlons as well as other activities such as Beach volley ball, rock climbing, cross country running and Half marathons.
Being a Melbourne boy and following Australian Rules football, the Army then introduced me to Rugby League, Rugby Union and Touch Football, which I played alot of in the Army. So now I follow the League and support the Nth Qld Cowboys and on top of that I met a Burdekin girl that I ended up marrying, so I figure this makes me a Queenslander.
After spending six years in the Armed Forces I decided to leave the Army and move on. I had no experience in the civilian environment and having left school, had no qualifications and therefore took up Security work and learnt a lot about people and human behavior.
After getting married we decided to make a fresh start in Melbourne where my career in Martial Arts started thanks to my brother who introduced me to Rod Sensei, my head instructor of Zen Do Kai and Muay Thai Kickboxing.
Rod Sensei runs his own company called All Stars Self Defence Centres and is the largest organization of its kind to run programs for Primary and Secondary schools throughout Victoria and interstate.
Working for All Stars Self Defence Centres as a sub contractor in the beginning and then later to become the State Manager was a privilege. Teaching children in Primary and Secondary schools gave me an in sight to what children are faced with these days and some of the children I have come across are really doing it tuff. This line of work has made me realize a lot about myself as well as others. As a Sensei (teacher) I often ended up counseling people and helping them on their path of life.
As a teacher seeing these kids absorb the knowledge I was passing on to them was exciting and the pleasure I received in teaching was more than I ever expected.
Opening my own Karate and Kickboxing schools under All Stars Self Defence Centers and seeing people succeed from the ages of 3 to 80 was overwhelming. When they all attempted their Grading for the next level and passing was a very proud moment in my life especially those I have graded up to their Black Belt and above (Karate) and Black Singlet (Kickboxing).
On the 16th January 2004 a little visitor came into my life, my son Kai Bodhi Vogel and what a proud moment in my life it was. He is the inspiration for me to succeed in my journey to running my own Personal Training and Martial Arts Studio which brings me to Oceanic Health and Fitness.
Oceanic Health and Fitness is about giving people variety by combining everything that I have learnt from being in the Army, working in gym’s, Security, Surf Life Saving and of course Martial Arts.
I want to be able to provide something for everybody and make it exciting, but at the same time making people reach their goals and help them understand their real potential.
Thank you for sharing my journey
